  • Coastal Oceanography Department
Coasts play an important role in human life. Iranian coasts are evidently important for the country. Iran enjoys 5700 km of coastal line including islands coasts. Since coastal areas interact permanently with sea waters, understanding the behaviors of aquatic environments, sea and ocean is essential for understanding coastal behaviors. Moreover, studying the conditions of aquatic environments in the coastal areas requires the knowledge of related aquatic environments. The Coastal Oceanography Department was established with the aim of applied fundamental researches on marine environments.
The main focuses of researches in this department are on:
·          Studying coastal areas hydrodynamics such as analyzing and forecasting short waves (wind waves) and long waves (tides, Tsunamis, storm surges) and their impacts on coastal structures
·          Coastal processes and coastal morphology studies
·          Numerical modeling of coastal areas as well as modeling the interactions between seas and coasts
 
 
  • Ocean Technology Department
Ocean Engineering and Technology is a requisite for marine development of any country which contributes to utilize marine resources and facilities. Iran has important and valuable sources in the Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. Iran enjoys resources of oil and gas, valuable protein and biological marine resources, unique tourism attractions, and many islands. The fact reveals the importance of ocean engineering development for Iran. Promoting marine transportation and using marine renewable energies are other reasons for the necessity of developing ocean engineering and technology.
Ocean Technology Department was established with the aim of applied fundamental researches in ocean engineering and technology. The main focuses of researches in this department are on:
·          Studying marine hydrodynamics and its interaction with marine structures emphasizing offshore issues such as:
i)      Analyzing and forecasting short waves and wind waves in the offshore
ii)     Analyzing hydrodynamic forces on the offshore structures
iii)    Effect of internal waves on structures
·          Numerical modeling of marine hydrodynamics and its interaction with marine structures
·          Studying on new marine technologies, including marine renewable energies and field measurements technologies, ocean industry development and technology transfers to Iran
·          Preparing instructions and recommendations on new ocean engineering and technology activities
·          Preparing local marine hydrodynamic information
·          Developing marine numerical models
 
 
  • Oceanographic Data & Remote Sensing Department
Nowadays, oceanographic data and using modern technologies of remote sensing have key role in developing marine knowledges of any country. In other words, without an extensive marine data bank, marine developing is not possible. Oceanographic Data Management & Remote Sensing Department was established with the aim of fundamental researches on oceanic data and using remote sensing technology.
The main focuses of researches in this department are on:
·          Developing marine data banks
·          Using and analyzing satellite information for oceanographic studies
·          Remote sensing technology
