Introduction

Persian Gulf Oceanography Centre (Bandar Abbas) as the fourth subsidiary National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science Research Center was launched in Bandar Abbas in 2011. Hormozgan Province was established as one of the seven coastal provinces with Bandar Abbas being its capital with a length of approximately 1,000 km off the coast of Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. The existence of more than kilometers of this coastal border has made the province of Hormozgan one of the main centers of maritime activity in the country. Located in the north Part of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea and near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the province has gained an exceptional position. Also  the province has a gained a significant position due to the largest import and export Marine docks (Port Shahid Rajai) and also extremely valuable habitat areas such as mangrove forests and numerous islands. Creating the Persian Gulf Oceanography center in Bandar Abbas with the aim of carrying out scientific research in oceanography in marine areas under the auspices of the province including the Strait of Hormuz and numerous islands in the Persian Gulf region, are the main goals of the center. The building of the center is located within about 2 km of the coastline and is the main core for oceanography research in the province. The center is currently in a building with an area of about 850 square meters and possesses laboratories in the field of Physical Oceanography and marine Geology.  Laboratories have been equipped with technical equipment and measurements are performed with the modern technology of the day and they are the main axis of the region with full ability to carry out field operations and to conduct studies. According to the conducted plans and considering a certain land of Bandar Abbas assigned to INIOAS, soon one of the best-equipped marine and oceanographic research centers will be built in the city.
