Dr. Ali Mehdinia, President of the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science (INIOAS), presented Iran’s scientific findings and research experience in surveying natural resources in the deep waters of the Gulf of Oman at the Deep-Sea Resources and Environment Forum, held on the sidelines of the 2026 World Young Scientists Summit in Wenzhou, China.
According to INIOAS, Dr. Mehdinia delivered an invited talk on October 24, 2026, titled “Deep-Sea Survey in the Oman Sea: Experience and Evidence of Natural Resources.” The session was chaired by Chunhui Tao, President of the BRICS International Research Center for Deep-Sea Resources. The forum focused on deep-sea resource exploration, marine environmental protection, and the role of ocean research in advancing a sustainable blue economy.
The forum brought together prominent scientists and representatives of international marine research institutions. Speakers included a Vice-Chair of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), the Deputy Director of Egypt’s National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, a representative from Russia, the President of China’s Second Institute of Oceanography (SIO), and the head of the BRICS International Research Center for Deep-Sea Resources.
The World Young Scientists Summit (WYSS 2026) is an international event held in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, to foster scientific exchange and collaboration among scientists and innovators from around the world. This year’s theme was “Global Youth Action in the AI Era: Building a Sustainable Future.”
Dr. Mehdinia also attended the summit’s opening ceremony. The Deep-Sea Resources and Environment Forum was one of the specialized forums held alongside the summit, providing a platform for researchers and experts to exchange scientific findings and perspectives on deep-sea resources and the marine environment.
